My Mom, Dorothy M. (Figueroa) Conlon, will often quote the above remark when commenting upon human behavior, especially the mis- or mal- treatment of children, animals, or the oppressed. Although derived from the Mark Twain quote:
“The noblest work of God? Man. Who found it out? Man.”
I think Mom’s more succinct version is superior.
